The aim of the study was to compare two determination methods for the phosphorus content of starches which was interesting in the context of the approaching introduction of ISO standards. The phorphorus content in potato and maize starch was determined using the Marsh method and the ISO 3646/1982 method. Statistical calculations were performed on IBM PC with the Quattro Pro 4.0 spreadsheet. For corn starch the obtained results showed the identity of the average values for both methods, while in the case of potato starch, the average phosphorus content determined by ISO method was slightly higher (73.9 mg/100 g) than the one obtained by Marsh method (70.5 mg/100 g). The statistical analysis confirmed that both methods are highly sensitive and have a high reproductibility of results
