Metabolic changes associated with vegetative malformation of mango (Mangifera indica L.)

Malformed seedlings showed significantly higher content of total carbohydrates, total sugars, reducing sugars, non-reducing sugars, starch, total phenolics, orthodihydroxy phenolics, DNA, RNA, proteins, total free amino acids, total amino acids, and ammonia compared with healthy seedlings, during three years of study, whereas the C/N ratio was significantly lower in malformed seedlings than healthy ones. The levels of threonine, serine, proline, glycine, alanine, valine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, histidine, arginine, aspartic acid, glutamic acid, tyrosine, phenylalanine, and tryptophan were also significantly higher compared with healthy seedlings during three years of investigations. The contents of cysteine and methionine were higher in malformed seedlings than healthy seedlings where these were in traces.
