In Ukraine for the period 1990-1997 number of agricultural animals at collective state and inter-farm enterprises reduced as follows: cattle - by 10.1 mln. heads, cows - 2.3, pigs - 9.49, sheep - by 6.0 mln. heads. Simultaneously for 1990-1996 the number of agricultural animals increased at private farms: cows - by 763 thousand heads (35.1 %), pigs - 1074 thousand (21.7 %) and sheep - by 580 thousand heads (52 %). Reduction in number of cattle and poultry caused spontaneous processes in the AIC's economy , decrease in general volumes of feed production, structural decomposition in production of field feeds, withdrawing part of arable land from use, low productivity of natural and sown pastures and hay meadows. The new strategy of using agricultural lands and some radical measures directed at development of agriculture and animal production are outlined
