[On pathogenesis of diarrhea in calves in early ontogeny]

The data on pathogenesis of diarrhea in calves during an early postnatal period are outlined and discussed. The main attention is given to the importance of free-radical oxidation of membrane lipids in the processes of initiation and development of the disease and the role of antioxidant protection in its prevention. The relation of these mechanisms with pathogenic role of prostoglandins and leukotriens in diarrhea are discussed. Some questions that are under discussion on separate problems of pathogenesis are touched on. The choise is substantiated of the minimal quantity of diagnostical studies aimed at evaluation of antioxidant status of an organism in the course of testing the activity of the new complex prophylactic antidiarrhea preparations that are being developed
