Genetically modified Pioneer corn hybrids, current situation and perspectives

Using the methods of biotechnology and genetic engeneering in the plant breeding gives a possibility to shorten the breeding process and to make it more effective. The attention is focused primarly on corn, since it is a plant with the highest yield potential among cereals. Two new technologies have been already released for commercial use: insect resistant corn and herbicide resistant corn. Despite of the opposition of some ecological organizations, the introduction of these products can avoid the massive starvation of the population, as well as to make the agriculture more profitable and environment friendly.
