The present paper deals with the comparison of the basic techniques how to identify varieties of spring barley. These techniques employ the polymorphism of hordein, isozymes and DNA. While techniques based on the separation of hordeins can easily be used to assess the percentage of the contents of individual varieties in a sample, the analysis of isozymes can serve as an additional technique to distinguish between varieties with the same hordein spectrum. Techniques of the analysis of DNA based on PCR make it possible to obtain data at any phenological phase of barley.
