The method of apple sawfly presence monitoring by means of white sticky traps (type Temmen, 60 cm2) was verified at two localities in Central Bohemia in 1993-1995. Apple sawly flight activity time courses and abundance differed according to the various growing seasons, and were influenced by apple varieties and pest management regimes. Sex ratios (females : males) as determined according to adult catch counts on white sticky traps also varied among particular growing seasons (from 3.5 to 0.9). The number of mature eggs in apple sawfly ovaries amounted to 15-20 eggs at the beginning of flight activity while up to 40 eggs at a later stage. The results obtained have confirmed that white sticky traps are suitable for determining apple sawfly occurrence rates and that data obtained in this way can be used for making decisions on pest control applications.
