The effectiveness of biological treatment of wheat straw by white-rot fungi

Out of 13 species of Basidiomycetes growing on wheat straw, 9 species enhanced the in vitro dry matter digestibility of the substrate. The detergent fiber content (acid and neutral) of the substrate was significantly reduced by most of the fungi tested. Hemicellulose showed the largest proportionate loss, whereas lignin the smallest one.
