Density variation in Bayur (Pterospermum sp.), Randagong (Trema orientalis) and Magas (Duabanga moluccana) from Sabah, Malaysia

The lesser utilised timbers Bayur (Pterospermum sp.), Randagong (Trema orientalis) and Magas (Duabanga moluccana) were analyzed with regard to the variation of the wood density (ovendry and at 14% moisture content). The average ovendry density of the different individuals varies from 0.36-0.43 g/cbm in Bayur, from 0.24-0.38 g/cbm in Randagong and from 0.26-0.35 g/cbm in Magas. The corresponding values for the density at 14% moisture content are 0.38-0.49 g/cbm in Bayur, 0.29-0.41 g/cbm in Randagong and 0.27-0.35 g/cbm in Magas. All trees show an increase in density from the centre of the stem to the periphery. The differences between height levels are not significant.

Die durchschnittliche Rohdichte (darrtrocken) der verschiedenen Individuen variiert von 0,36-0,43 g/cbm in Bayur, von 0,24-0,38 g/cbm in Randagong und von 0,26-0,35 g/cbm in Magas. Die entsprechenden Werte der Rohdichte bei 14% Holzfeuchte sind 0,38-0,49 g/cbm in Bayur, 0,29-0.41 g/cbm in Randagong und 0,27-0,35 g/cbm in Magas. In allen Individuen steigt die Rohdichte vom Stamminneren zur Peripherie hin an. Unterschiede zwischen verschiedenen Stammebenen sind nicht signifikant.
