In vitro investigations of kiwifruit (Aktinidia chinensis Planch) and red raspberry (Rubus idaeus L.)

Shoot tips were taken from shoots arising from kiwi (Actinidia chinensis Planch.) root cuttings (root shoot tip explants) showed in vitro, higher proliferation and rooting abilities than shoot tip explants (taken from growing kiwi shoots) and lateral buds (excised from shoot cuttings). Callus was formed from kiwi unburst lateral buds using 2 mg/1 BA during four weeks of culture in the initiation medium. By reducing BA concentration in the medium to 11 mg/1, plantlet regeneration took place and a complete plant (shoots and roots) was obtained, while by keeping the concentration of BA the same (2 mg/1) for a long time, only shoots were regenerated from callus. Storage of red raspberry (Rubus idaeus L.) root cuttings at 4 degrees C up to 60 days stimulated bud root formation and enchanced the growth of in vitro cultured raspberry shoot tips which gave longer shoots, higher leaf number, and larger fresh and dry weight than the control.
