Indigenous farming systems which use native tree species can sometimes be inadvertently hampered by laws intended to protect valuabel trees in the forest. The article reports on indigenous agroforestry practices using Hagenia abyssinica and the challenges in maintaining these systems in the soutern highlands of Tanzania.
