The appls cvs. Lodel and Freedom were found to have a higher level of reducing sugars in their leaves than the cvs. Novamac and Primula. However, no significant differences between the studied cultivars were found in starch content. The hawthorn spider mite (Tetranychus viennensis) and two-spotted spider mite (T. urticae) multiplied best on the cv. Novamac (Ro=26.0 and 22.6). The both spider mite species were found to have a negative correlation between the level of reducing sugars and Ro, rm and [lambda] parameters
