Factors influencing fat content in cow milk

Among many factors influencing milk fat content, the composition of ration and feeding technology play the most important roles. Ruminal acidosis is associated with decrease of milk fat content which may drop to 3 %. On the other hand, a moderate increase up to 4.5 % was observed in cows affected by subclinical ketosis or the lipomobilisation syndrome. Milk fat content is a good indicator of subclinical acidosis.
