Results obtained from the use of propyzamide in pre-emergence treatment of sugar beet for Cuscuta spp. control [Beta vulgaris L. - Emilia-Romagna]

In field tests conducted during the three year period 1994-97 the possibility of pre-emergence use of propyzamide on sugar beet was evaluated through observations of a selectivity towards the crop and the herbicidal efficacy towards Cuscuta spp. The results showed that the control of the parasite through pre-emergence use of propyzamide was affected by the period of emergence of the weed: an average efficacy of 74% was obtained in the case of early emergence, as opposed to 41% with the late emergence. Information on selectivity indicated that the threshold dosage of propyzamide for pre-emergence treatment could be 400 g/ha, if used alone, and 250 g/ha if used mixed with 446.4 g/ha of ethofumesate. Below this threshold, the values of efficacy achieved using the dosage of 355 g/ha of propyzamide alone and a dosage of 248.5 g/ha mixed with 446.4 g/ha of ethofumesate were 59% and 32%, respectively

In prove di campo condotte nel triennio 1994-97 e' stata valutata, su barbabietola da zucchero, la possibilita' d'impiego in pre-emergenza di propyzamide mediante osservazioni sulla selettivita' nei confronti della coltura e l'efficacia erbicida verso Cuscuta spp. I risultati hanno evidenziato che il contenimento del parassita, impiegando propyzamide in pre-emergenza, e' stato condizionato dal periodo di nascita dell'infestante: con emergenze precoci si e' ottenuta un'efficacia media del 74%, mentre con emergenze tardive del 41%. Le indicazioni ottenute sulla selettivita' hanno evidenziato come la dose soglia d'impiego di propyzamide in pre-emergenza potrebbe essere di 400 g/ha se impiegato da solo e 250 g/ha se impiegato in miscela con 446,4 g/ha di etofumesate. Al di sotto di tale soglia, i valori di efficacia raggiunti impiegando la dose di 355 g/ha di propyzamide, da solo ed in miscela con 446,4 g/ha di etofumesate alla dose di 248,5 g/ha, sono stati del 59% e del 32%, rispettivamente
