Effect of HCN excreted by Pseudomonas fluorescens on the growth of some phytopathogenic fungi

The effect of HCN excreted by 2 cyanogenic Pseudomonas strains on the growth of 9 phythopathogenic fungi was studied in vitro. Different sensitivities of the fungi to the fungistatic activity of HCN were observed. The most sensitive to HCN was Gaeumonnomyces graminis vartritici, while Fusarium culmorum was highly resistant to HCN. The growth of Fusarium culmorum in the presence of HCN on the Czapek-Dox-Agar medium without sodium nitrate was observed. The resistance of Fusarium culmorum to HCN might have been connected with the use of cyanide as a nitrogen source by this strain
