New forests "to the left of the Ems" - Experience with new forests established in Fullener Moor, Versener Moor and in Fehndorf

In 1980, the forest district of Lingen began planning, preparing and carrying out the afforestation of large tracts of forest-free landscapes west of the Ems river. Twenty different tree species were planted and sown on a 400 ha area, which had previously been freed of peat. This article reports on the stands established and an initial balance of the forest's development is drawn. - At present, this newly established forest reveals a great biodiversity, and this after only 18 years. It provides a distinct cultural and recreational enrichment in the lives of the people.
