Influence of soil cultivation method on water content in arable horizon and subsoil during spring wheat vegetation period

The effect of different tillage methods on soil moisture content in root system zone was studied on spring wheat in a field experiment. No-tillage systems, direct sowing and simplified cultivation, were compared with traditional ploughing. Higher soil moisture content down to 40 cm depth was observed at the treatments with direct sowing in the period of precipitaion deficiency. Tillage simplifications were found not to exert any effect on soil density down to 30 cm, whereas its compaction increased either at the beginning and the end of vegetation
