Assessment of Pb extractability from arable soils by means of NH4OAc, HCl and DTPA

Soil samples randomly taken from areas at increasing distance from Glogow copper smelter and divided into two groups according to Pb content (Pb150 mg/kgPb2) were treated with four extractants (NH4OAc, HCl, and DTPA of two different concentrations) to compare their ability of lead extraction from soil. On the basis of extracted Pb percentage in relation to its total content in both sample groups the extractants were ranked as follows: HClDTPANH4OAc. Multiple regression analysis showed that the amounts of DTPA extracted lead were affected by organic carbon and clay contents in soil samples
