Horizontal (lateral) pressure of barley and oat grain on the walls of a silo at external coat temperature 17 and 25 deg C was studied under laboratory conditions. In all cases the silo was filled with two grain layers of differentiated moisture content (dry basis); in bottom layer m.c. was 0.190, while in the upper 0.087 kg/kg. At external coat temperature 17 deg C the lateral pressure of oat grain on the walls was less than that of barley grain. However, at external temperature 25 deg C the pressure rose more intensively for oat than for barley grain. Such phenomenon was caused by stronger self-heating of oat grain at higher temperature
