The paper describes a study which was carried out to investigate the potential contribution of pigeonpea to soil fertility management in smallholder farming systems. The study was initiated at Domboshava and in Murewa Communal Area during the 1996/97 cropping seasoon. Its main focus was on biologicaal nitrogen fixation and pigeonpea residue management in the farming systems.
