The knowledge of the leaf area of the whole-canopy for kiwifruit plants leads to a rational summer pruning. The traditional method needs the leaf number of a plant and the whole-canopy has to be estimated multiplying the leaf number for the leaf area average. The aim of this study was to evaluate the possibility to determine kiwifruit leaf area by allometry. Linear regressions and correlation coefficients were calculated, separately for shaded (O) and no-shaded (NO) vines, using the following leaf and shoots measurements: fresh an dry matter of leaves, length and leaf number of shoots, leaf area of leaves and shoots. All regressions were significant but the best estimates of shoot leaf area were by using the shoot length
