Baseline and need identification survey report of outreach research site at chpleti of Myagdi district (High hill) representing high hills in western Nepal

Need identification of the farmers and base line survey was carried out at outreach research site of high hill environments at Chipleti in Myagdi district (Nepal). The participatory rural appraisal technique was used to establish benchmark information of biophysical and socio-economic aspects. This report presents the findings of these surveys and the promary concentration has been on socio-economic, agronomic, horticultural, livestock, and forestry/pasture. Institutional and farming constraints farmers needs and researchable problems are required to priotize agricultural research. Almost 75 percent of annual precipitation occur during July to September and maximum hailstone occurs in May followed by April and March. The ethnic domainance is Chhetries (69 percent) followed by Brahamin (12 percent) Magar (9 percent) and occupational castes (14 percent). Most of the households belong to food deficit, food sufficient and food surplus. Maize wheat rice millet and potatoes were commonly consumed food staples. Cereals from on-farm and service + pension from off-farm were the main source of income. Women are involved in all the farming activities except ploughing the land. Out of 20 ha of cultivated land, bari land and khet land occupies equally and per capita land of khet and bari is 0.2 ha each.
