Control of cyst nematodes on carrot and potato in Apulia [Daucus carota L. - Solanum tuberosum L.]

The efficacy of methyl bromide, applied to the soil at reduced doses under virtually impermeable plastic tarps, was tested in two field experiments against Heterodera carotae on carrot and Globodera pallida on potato. Nematode control was almost complete, independently of the tarp type (standard, Bromotec or EVA) and rate of application of the fumigant (10, 20, 40, 60 or 80 g/square m), including the lowest doses applied: 20 g/square m for H. carotae and 10 g/square m for G. pallida. There were no significant differences in yield of carrot or potato among the treatments but all of them were greater than the controls

L'efficacia del bromuro di metile, somministrato al terreno sotto coperture virtualmente impermeabili ai gas, a dosi ridotte e' stata valutata in due prove in campi infestati da nematodi cisticoli Heterodera carotae su carota e Globodera pallida su patata. Il controllo dei nematodi e' stato pressoche' totale, indipendentemente dal tipo di copertura impiegato (standard, bromotec o EVA) e dalle dosi del fumigante somministrate (10, 20, 40, 60 o 80 g/metri quadrati). Anche le dosi piu' basse, 20 g/metri quadrati contro H. carotae e 10 g/metri quadrati contro G. pallida, hanno dato produzioni statisticamente superiori a quelle delle parcelle non trattate, ma non differenti da quelle conseguite sulle parcelle trattate con dosi piu' alte (40, 60 o 80 g/metri quadrati) del nematocida
