Mixed grazing of cattle and sheep aimed at economic efficiency improvement of beef cattle production

The economic aspects of various systems of mixed grazing of cattle and sheep were investigated in a 2-year experiment. In the first year, variant I was applied., i.e. the stocking density of the pasture with cows and their calves, and sheep with their lambs was based on the carrying capacity of the pastureland during the entire grazing period. The young animals were left on the pasture over the whole grazing period. In variant II, pasture stocking density was based on the dynamics of growth of the pasture herbage during the vegetation period. This goal was achieved by shifting the time of lambing to an earlier period which resulted in higher stocking density of the pasture with the young lambs at the beginning of the grazing period and their earlier removal from the pasture. In variant II the rate of profitability, i.e. comparison of the yields and costs, increased by 40 percent compared with variant I
