Changes in H2O2 level and H2O2-decomposing enzymes in tomato leaves after infection with fungus

Changes in hydrogen peroxide level as well as in activities of catalse, ascorbate peroxidase and peroxidase assayed with guaiacol and quercetin were studied after infection of tomato leaves with Botrytis cinerea. The H2O2 content increased significantly 1 day after infection and then it decreased below the control level. At early stage of pathogen invasion the ascorbate peroxidase and catalase activities were slightly lower or remained unchanged. Activities of these enzymes started to increase following the second day after treatment with fungus. Induction of peroxidase oxidizing quercetin was visible as early as 3 hours after inoculation while the activity of peroxidase oxidizing guaiacol started to increase following the second day
