TAD Salmonella vac E - a new live vaccine against Salmonella enteritidis

Extensive trials in laboratory and field were done with a new live culture S. enteritidis vaccine - TAD Salmonella vac E. SPF leghorn birds and broiler breeders were used. The result show that the vaccine is safe and inhibits strongly the shedding and persistence of homologous wild type infection in comparison with unvaccinated birds. Breeders vaccinated during rearing time were protected for the whole production period. A combined vaccination schedule using consecutively live and inactivated vaccine provides a similar protection. Inactivated vaccine alone cannot inhibit the shedding and persistence of the SE challenge strain. The characteristics of the vaccine strain, the determination and differentiation methods, and the compatibility with existing control measures will be demonstrated
