Effect of the fat content in gilts on their reproductive performance

The studies were conducted on 30 crossbred gilts from the day of mating to the end of reproductive cycle. The backfat thickness was measured at points P2 and P4. Regardless of the backfat thickness on the day of mating, all gilts gave birth to a similar number of piglets. However, those characterized by a thicker backfat layer had heavier piglets and manifested the symptoms of estrus within a shorter time after piglet weaning. The differences were not statistically significant
