Biological and integrated methods in the control of western flowers thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis, on Cucumber and Strawberry

The control of western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis, was studied in the four experiments on cucumber and strawberry. In the first experiment, the biological control of F. occedentalis was carried out with Orius insidiosus and proved to be an effective control agent of the pest. It gave the most effective results when released in the predator prey ratio of 6:15 In the second experiment, the integrated control of F. occidentalis with Oxamyl, blue sticky traps, and O. insidiosus was tested. The experiment showed the effectiveness of the predator and the traps in controlling western flower thrips. The Oxamyl had an immediate effect when it was applied at a dose of 2g/plant to those cucumber plants showing phytotoxic symptoms on their leaves.
