A new method to visualise and quantify urea-formaldehyde (UF) resin of fibre in MDF panels has been achieved by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) after doping the resin with a cathodoluminescent label. - Laboratory MDF panels (90x 90 x 7,8 mm) were prepared using commercially sourced radiata pine fibre (50 g) to which UF resin (Orica UF573, labelled or unlabelled) was applied (10 % w/w loading) via a blender with an approximate moisture content of 14 %. The mat was pre-pressed and then hot pressed. Panels were tested (internal bond test) according to the BS1142 standard.
