Effects of supplementation of vitamin E and different energy sources on periparturient dairy cows

[The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of vitamin E and Ca soaps supplementation to periparturient dairy cows on plasma and milk concentration of alpha tocopherol, milk yield and quality and some reproductive parameters. Twenty eight dairy cows (7 for group), from 10 days before expected calving until 7 days after, were fed 4 diets, formulated to provide 1,000 or 2,000 IU of DL-alpha-tocopheryl acetate and 500 g maize or 200 g Ca soaps. An increase of plasma (4.285 vs 3.25 microng/ml) (P0.01) and milk (1.11 vs 0.65 microng/ml) (P0.01) alpha-tocopherol and lower (P0.01) somatic cell counts were found in cows receiving 2,000 IU vitamin E, compared with 1,000 IU group. The recorded reproductive parameters were positively affected by administration of 2,000 IU vitamin E. Different energy source did not affect the studied parameters]

Obiettivo del seguente lavoro e' stato di valutare l'effetto della supplementazione di vitamina E e di saponi di Ca a bovine da latte nel periparto sulla concentrazione in alfa-tocoferolo del plasma e del latte, sulla produzione e qualita' del latte e su alcuni parametri riproduttivi. Quattro diete, fornenti 1.000 o 2.000 UI di DL-alfa-tocoferil acetato e 500 g di mais farina o 200 g di saponi di Ca, sono state somministrate a 28 bovine (7 animali per gruppo) da 10 giorni prima a 7 giorni dopo il parto. Gli animali che ricevevano 2.000 UI di vitamina E hanno fatto registrare un tenore in alfa-tocoferolo superiore nel plasma (4,85 vs 3,25 microng/ml) (P0,0 1) e nel latte (1,11 vs 0,65 microng/ml) (P0,0 1) ed un numero in cellule somatiche inferiore (P0,01) rispetto al gruppo che riceveva 1.000 UI di vitamina E. I parametri riproduttivi registrati sono stati influenzati positivamente dalla somministrazione di 2.000 UI di vitamina E. La diversa fonte energetica non ha influenzato significativamente i parametri esaminati
