Use of natural enemies against pests in protected vegetable production

Integrated vegetable production spread over Slovenia in last three years and put into force. According to the guidelines integrated vegetable was produced on 43 farms on 116 ha of fields (5,10 ha protected area of it) in the year 1999 and on 111 farms on 333 ha of fields (14,08 ha protected area of it) in the year 2000. In protected vegetable production biotical pest control with natural enemies were successfully introduced. In the year 2000 natural enemies imported from Austria and Italy were used on 36.000 m2 of protected area on 21 locations. Used were Encarsia formosa, Aphidoletes aphidimyza, Amblyseius cucumeris, Phytoseiulus persimilis, Aphidius colemani, Dacnusa sibirica and Orius levigatus. In the year 1999 they were entered 6 times on 9 locations and in the year 2000 4 times on 21 locations. Their multiplication in our condition was depended of climat conditions in the protected area and presence of food. Untill the end of September Encarsia formosa was found, Orius laevigatus, Aphidoletes aphidimyza and Aphidius colemani were found at the end of October. Phytoseiulus persimilis and Amblyseius cucumeris multiplicated just at high temperatures and enough food in protected areas in Slovenia.
