Effect of cultivation method on initial development and botanical composition of meadow sward after direct seeding of two mixtures

The investigation on the influence of various factors that restrict development of old sward on germination of sod seeded species was carried out in the spring 1998. Based on the results obtained, it was found that cutting alone before sod seeding, in a plant association where low grasses dominate, did not bring about proper plant density, with over 30 percent of failed sod seeded plants. The most favourable changes in the botanical composition of meadow sward were obtained after selective weeding and growth inhibition
