Allelic variation at the storage protein loci (Glu-1 - Glu-3 - and Gli-1) in Norwegian wheats (Triticum aestivum L.)

The composition of the high-molecular-weight glutenin subunits (HMW-GS), low-molecular- weight glutenin subunits (LMW-GS) and gliadins of Norwegian wheat cultivars and advanced breeding lines (Triticum aestivum L.) was determined using electrophoretic methods. The identification of the gliadin/LMW-GS pairs was in accordance with the combined identification system of Jackson et al. (1996). The allelic variation at the combined gliadin/LMW-GS loci was rather high, comprising nine allele combinations at the combined Gli-A1, Glu-A3 loci, 12 combinations at the Gli-B1, Glu-B3 loci and 10 combinations at the Gli-D1, Glu-D3 loci. Two gliadin/LMW-GS combinations found in the breeding lines are possibly new alleles since they could not be identified by previous identification systems. Increased variation in the breeding lines compared to the cultivars gives breeders greater opportunities to produce wheat varieties that fit the quality requested by the milling and baking industries

[Utilizzando metodi elettroforetici e' stata determinata la composizione delle subunita' di glutenina ad alto peso molecolare (HMW-GS), delle subunita' di glutenina a basso peso molecolare (LMW-GS) e delle gliadine di cultivar e di linee in selezione in stato avanzato di frumento tenero (Triticum aestivum L.) norvegesi. L'identificazione delle paia di gliadine/LMW-GS era in accordo con il sistema di identificazione combinato di Jackson et al. (1996). La variazione allelica dei loci combinati gliadina/LMW-GS era piuttosto alta, comprendendo nove combinazioni alleliche ai loci combinati Gli-A1, Glu-A3, 12 combinazioni ai loci Gli-B1, Glu-B3 e 10 combinazioni ai loci Gli-D1, Glu-D3. Due combinazioni gliadina/LMW-GS trovate nelle linee in selezione sono probabilmente nuovi alleli, dal momento che non era stato possibile individuarle con precedenti sistemi di identificazione.
