Leaching test on toxic elements from steelwork fume powders stabilised with two different procedures

In this work, experimental results about two stabilisation processes of steelworks powders, obtained, the first, through an hydraulic binder (Portland cement) and ferrous sulphate solution and the second one by natural clay soil, are reported. The stabilised wastes obtained have been tested by means of two leaching test: IRSA-CNR with 0.5 M CH3COOH and UNI 10802 test in distilled water. The first one is the test actually used in Italy for the management of industrial solid waste landfills. The relative results, obtained testing steelworks powder stabilised by means of the first procedure, point out the necessity of operating in a optimal range of pH, that is a balance between the optimal thermodynamic conditions, in which Cd++ and Pb++ show the minimum solubility, and the kinetic conditions, in which the reduction rate of Cr(IV) is sufficiently fast

Sono riportati i dati sperimentali ottenuti sottoponendo a due test di cessione, test IRSA-CNR con acido acetico e test UNI 10802 con acqua distillata, due serie di rifiuti ottenuti stabilizzando polveri da abbattimento di fumi di acciaieria, in un caso con cemento Portland e solfato ferroso e, nell'altro, con minerali argillosi. L'indagine effettuata con il test IRSA-CNR con CH3COOH, la prova attualmente utilizzata in Italia al fine di gestire correttamente le discariche per rifiuti industriali non pericolosi, ha messo in evidenza la necessita' di operare in un ristretto intervallo di pH, che risulta essere un compromesso tra i valori ottimali, dal punto di vista termodinamico, per ottenere l'insolubilizzazione degli ioni Pb++ e Cd++ e quelli migliori, dal punto di vista cinetico, per la riduzione dello ione cromato
