After having considered various levels of biodiversity, the ecological components are examined that may promote the occurrence of taxa playing a key role in maintaining biological balance in agro-ecosystems. Biodiversity is a fundamental basis in agricultural production, as well as a valuable ingredient of environmental conservation. Genetic diversity is the variety of genes within species. Individuals are the most basic unit of biodiversity. Species diversity is the variety of plant and animal species in a given region. Ecosystem diversity relates to the variety between and within ecosystem types. Agro-biodiversity consists of a rich basket of resources ranging from varieties of crops and livestock, to beneficial insect, microscopic organism and genetic materials. The role of pollinating insects in agro-ecosystems is considered. Within the National research Project AMA (BHE, Bee, Honey, Environment), a study concerning the census of pollinating insects in Italy was carried out

Dopo aver considerato i vari livelli di biodiversita', vengono esaminate le componenti ecologiche in grado di favorire la presenza di quelle entita' che rivestono un ruolo importante per il mantenimento degli equilibri biologici negli agro-ecosistemi. In particolare, vengono considerati il ruolo che gli insetti pronubi svolgono in tale contesto e l'importanza di acquisire ulteriori dati sulla consistenza delle loro specie in Italia, anche attraverso il potenziamento del gruppo di ricerca costituito nell'ambito del progetto AMA (Ape, Miele, Ambiente)
