The positive effects of matriconditioning seeds of hot pepper cultivars Cyklon and Bronowicka Ostra lasted after their storage for a year in glass jars kept in an air-conditioned room at 20 deg C. Matriconditioning significantly increased fruit yield per plant and the mean fruit weight in cv. Bronowicka Ostra, accelerated the maturation of fruits of both cultivars, increased the yield (per square m) of fruits at technological maturity in both cultivars, increased fruit dry weight in cv. Bronowicka Ostra and increased the content of carotenoids by 80 and 140 in Cyklon and Bronowicka Ostra, respectively. The content of capsaicin depended mainly on genotype. Matriconditioning did not cause any changes in capsaicin content in fruits of Cyklon cv. and in the case of Bronowicka Ostra cv. lowered it
