英语. Bovine cattle affected by the disease - reported for the first time by Johne and Frothingham in 1895 - present chronic enteritis as initial symptom. There is evidence today that the disease affects as well sheep, goats and wild animals such as roebuck, deer and chamois. In the second half of the last century, I watched it in the cattle either in cowshed or at pasture. Once rare, the disease has been getting fairly frequent, therefore it should be included in the infectious diseases to be reported according to law. As the National scheme aimed at eradicating cattle tuberculosis was being carried out, Johne's disease, although sporadic, has been acknowledged as one of the infectious diseases to wipe out

Oggi si sa che colpisce anche pecore, capre e animali selvatici quali caprioli, cervi, camosci. Nella seconda meta' del secolo scorso l'ho osservata nei bovini in stalla e al pascolo, con carattere di sporadicita' che nel tempo e' andato gradualmente modificandosi in direzione di una maggiore presenza, per cui e' opportuno che venga inserita nell'elenco delle malattie infettive denunciabili. Durante i grandi piani di risanamento degli allevamenti nazionali dalla tubercolosi bovina, nella seconda meta' del secolo scorso, gia' allora la malattia di Johne e' entrata nel contesto delle malattie infettive da debellare
