PLANT BREEDING IN SCOPE OF THE FACTORIAL CONCEPT OF HEREDITY

The main perspectives of progressive development of the factorial concept of heredity in breeding are briefly reviewed and illustrated with an experience of a garden pea. Possible consequences of usage of principles initially formulated for natural populations in pea breeding are analyzed. Role of marker-assisted selection in production of new cultivars is discussed.
