Evaluation of Yard Long Bean Genotypes (Vigna unguiculata sub sp. Sesquipedalis (L.) Verdcourt) Grown under Konkan Agroclimatic Conditions of Maharashtra

Nine yard long bean genotypes were evaluated for growth, flowering behaviour, yield and yield attributing characters and physico-chemical parameters under Konkan agroclimatic condition of Maharashtra. The study revealed that the highest vine length was recorded by the genotype DPL-YLB-3 (450.33 cm); while the genotype DPL-YLB-4 (25.60) recorded the highest number of primary branches per plant. The genotype DPL-YLB-5 recorded the highest total leaf area (16751.88 cm-2), leaf area index (2.33), earliness for first flowering (61.70 days after sowing), fifty per cent flowering (64.00 days after sowing) and earliness in first harvest (71.00 days after sowing). However, the genotype DPL-YLB-8 showed the lowest number of days from anthesis to horticultural maturity (10.00 days), while the highest values for number of pods per plant (120.67), number of pickings (11.33), harvesting duration (47.00 days), pod length (56.84 cm), number of seeds per pod (18.73), weight of flesh per pod (12.71 g), pod yield per plant (1.69 kg), per plot (16.93 kg) and per hectare (23.52t) and protein content (4.40 %). However, the highest pod girth was recorded in the genotype DPL-YLB-5 (3.09 cm). Further, the highest weight of tender green pod (17.65 g) and weight of grains per pod (5.95 g) and moisture content (90.00 %). All the yard long bean genotypes were found acceptable. The highest sensory score (8.04) recorded in the genotype DPL-YLB-8. The genotype DPL-YLB- 8 was found superior based on the overall performance of different yard long bean genotypes for growth, flowering behaviour, yield and yield attributing characters, physico-chemical parameters and sensory evaluation for cultivation under Konkan agroclimatic conditions of Maharashtra.
