Study results of some ornamental plants blooming in spring in the Central Garden of Kutaisi.

The creation of artistic compositions during the construction of formal gardens significantly depends on the external decorative characteristics of woody plants, among which the shape, color and flowering periods of flowers occupy one of the leading places. Unfortunately, the use of these plants in landscape design is extremely small. This is due to the fact that the effect of flowering, seasonality and duration of many woody plants are still little or not known at all. Phenological observations revealed that in 2021 plants started to vegetate and flower one week earlier, and flowering in 2021 was extended from 58 to 74 days for all four study plants compared to 2020 (46-51 days), after the average ambient temperature reached 12,0-13,00C. The analysis showed necessity for reconstructing the formal garden plants. To eliminate sparseness, additional young and colorful plants of the same species (Indian rhododendron) shall be planted; the area near the formal garden’s café would significantly decorated with Chinese wisteria.
