In Latvia, many greenhouse farms grow lettuce for the first spring harvest. Some growers grow them throughout the season. In order to achieve a high-quality, healthy harvest, there is it is important to provide plants with all the nutrients they need in the optimal amount. How to evaluate soil analysis results? In the article, the author presents the methods developed by the Dutch company “Rijk Zwaan”. It would be dried in an agrochemical laboratory the soil sample is treated with the specified chemical substance to be able to determine everything important to plants content of chemical elements. Such processing is carried out by to simulate root secretions with which directly those in the soil near the roots are dissolved salty. Using an aqueous extract (namely from the soil sample is squeezed or aspirate water with a syringe, as is usually done when growing in inert substrates in hydroponics), the amount of dissolved elements in water is analysed.
