Sugar is a product made from sugar beet, which is widely used in the food industry. When consumed in excess of the norm, it can have consequences for the body, such as diabetes, increased cholesterol, impaired sleep quality and various cardiovascular diseases. Some foods contain a hidden amount of sugar that the consumer is not aware of, which is why nowadays certain technologies and healthy sugar substitutes are being developed that would not cause certain harmful consequences to the body. Various sugar substitutes are mainly used on the market, either natural or artificial, the artificial ones being used because they are much cheaper and convenient for manufacturers to make a profit, which is why consumers should inform themselves, read the labels and choose the healthy alternatives.
