Economic and energy savings from surface-heating greenhouses in Northcentral States
1981
Braden, J.B. | Lazarus, S.S. | Walker, P.N.
Extract: A system for heating greenhouses with the surface application of heated water is analyzed for its potential energy and dollar savings in Northcentral states. Results of the analysis depend critically on weather conditions and the temperature (and, hence, the source) of the heated water. Present value savings in 1980 dollars of converting all greenhouses to the system could approach $1 billion. Annual savings in natural gas could reach 262 million therms or about one-half of one percent of annual natural gas sales in the region.
