Abstract: The Food Label and Package Surveillance program was initiated to examine and track changes in nutrition labeling practices. The food categories sampled were packaged processed foods, processed meat and poultry, fresh milk, bread and ice cream. Topics included are: trends in nutrition labeling; method of data collection; statistical tests of change; presence of nutrition labels; and regulatory requirements of labeling. Tables of results showing types of food and precents of required and not required labeling present on food packages are included.
