Nutrient levels in food used by households in the United States, spring 1977

Abstract: Findings on the levels of nutrients in food used by 3,500 housekeeping households surveyed in 48 states in the spring of 1977 are reported. The food used in most households was sufficient to meet the RDA for food energy and nutrients studied. Intake levels of ascorbic acid for most households were well above the RDA (an increase over the levels discovered during the 1965 survey). Estimates of the nutrient content of food used at home were based on information collected on the kinds and quantities of food used by households during 7 days and the USDA food composition tables. Nutrient levels of food used by each household are stated as percentages of the 1974 RDA's. Findings are presented for households classified by region, urbanization, and income. (rkm).
