Abstract: This booklet comprises a teaching module which provides nutrition educators with the information needed to counsel caretakers whose children are overweight or are at risk of becoming overweight. The reasons why it is not healthy to be overweight are described and methods of reaching a proper weight by changing diet and exercise habits are included. Topics include: definition of overweight; causes of overweight; benefits of exercise; preventing obesity in children; and ideas for individual and group counseling.
