Abstract: Current opinions on nutritional issues relating to major health aspects are presented in a collection of papers by British physicians and scientists. Major topics are: the gastrointestinal tract; alcohol-related health problems; metabolic disorders; mothers and children; and cardiovascular disorders. In addition, methods for the evaluation of nutritional status and studies of national surveillance are described. Nutritional aspects of mothers and children include the following: diet and the pregnant and lactating woman; a view of present-day (1980) practices in infant feeding; diet, growth, and health of infants in a disadvantaged inner city; and nutrition and social circumstances of primary school children.
