A study was undertaken to assess the cationic composition in ground drinking water in the village located near Kali east river. Thirty two ground water samples were collected from hand pumps and tubewells (shallow and deep) in the month of March 2010. The samples were analyzed for major cationic ion in the laboratory. This study reveals that the some ground water samples had marginally high concentration of sodium, calcium, potassium and magnesium. These high cationic ion in ground water might be due to unsafely discharges of effluents from sugar mills, paper and pulp mills, distillery, waste water from villages and cities and rapid use of pesticides and fertilizers in agricultural. The ground water in the study area is moderately hard to hard in nature. Ground water suitability for domestic purposes was examined using WHO and BIS standard. The data indicate, that the ground water quality in a few localities was unsuitable for domestic purpose
