This is a dietary assessment of 813 Asian and 54 European immigrants of similar socio-economic status, living in Harrow, England and attending the same obstetric clinic. Asians were categorized as vegetarian, non vegetarian, and then sub-divided according to specific food; groups were then combined into "Harrow Asians" and contrasted with Europeans. Results indicated that vitamin D and B12 intake were lower among Asians, particularly Hindu vegetarians. Conclusions are that the nutrient content of the Asian diets cannot be demonstrated as nutritionally inadequate except for vitamin D and in some sub-groups possibly vitamin B12.
