The present investigation was taken up in order to estimate serum biochemical parameters in native ducks of Northern Tamil Nadu and to evaluate the effect of sex and rearing system on biochemical profile. Twelve ducks (six males and six females) were selected randomly from each production system and blood samples were collected (consistently in morning to avoid diurnal variation) to arrive at biochemical estimates. The results revealed a significant (P<0.05) effect of sex and rearing system on total protein, albumin, triglycerides, cholesterol and calcium with values being higher in female ducks as well as those under intensive production system. Besides, serving as clinical indicators in disease diagnosis, the present study also allows understanding of behavior correlated with metabolic activity.
